When you think of a “does not miss” artist, The Widdler is a name at the top of that discussion. With years of experience and consistent releases, it is very easy to get excited about a new project from The Widdler. His newest release is a monstrous 43-track album of minimal dubstep, riddim, downtempo, and dance music. The album, titled “Zero G,” follows the announcement of a massive tour of the same name to round out another successful year for The Widdler.
The Ganja White Night-founded label Subcarbon Records has the pleasure of releasing The Widdler’s latest behemoth of an album. The Ganja boys have been a huge part of The Widdler’s story so far, whether it be a joint effort together on a collaboration, or sharing the stage at a curated event. “Zero G” is the ultimate installment of tasteful dubstep in that classic Widdler style that we have come to know and love over the years.
In this day and age, it is not exactly common for an artist to release a 43-track album. For most producers, this will never be a reality. “Zero G” requires a full listen, because the depth and range touched throughout the entire project are awe-inspiring. The Widdler shared on his Instagram account “The concept of the album is to feature both sides of my production style (fun, high energy tracks + minimal/vibey dubstep).” Let’s break it down and highlight some of the tracks that stood out after first listen.
Right off the bat, title track “Zero G” is a dub-heavy banger with a reggae-style beat bringing it together. Tracks like “Elements” “Shikari” and “Totem” have an enchanting and melodic feel to them. For a more relaxing downtempo experience check out “Zephyr” “Trails” and “You Don’t Want To Be Alone.” Riddim anthem “Cyber” will be a classic for those looking to get a little rowdy. The album goes in a different direction with tunes like “Robin” and “Sunrise” which are fun, sexier dance songs. For those looking for some instant bass face, heavy hitters “Squatly” and “Blaze It Up” are already making waves in the scene and will surely become fan favorites.
The Zero G tour kicks off next weekend with a two-night run in Colombus, Ohio and will run all the way into December. You can snag tix here.
