Heard It Here First

As we imagine what lies ahead, we often become filled with a sense of discernment at every step of the process. This is precisely what dubstep innovators MYSTRVS and BRASIVE felt when they combined their production skills to create an untamed riddim EP dubbed ‘FORESIGHT.’ Out now through Dubstep FBI’s new label, Beat Intelligence Network, the six-track EP merges the worlds of mainstream dubstep and underground riddim. That being said, the highly anticipated collection of tracks has been showcased by some of the biggest names in modern day dubstep, such as ATLiens, Rated R, Codd Dubz, LAYZ, Vampa, and BLANKFACE. 

The two underground riddim producers first catalyzed their connection after meeting each other on the Savage Society Records’ Discord server. Starting off as a casual collaboration, MYSTRVS & BRASIVE came out with ‘DUNES,’ a track that ignited something much more. MYSTRVS described the story of their creative partnership, telling us: 

“It all began when BRASIVE and I started to hang out a lot in the Savage Society discord. I got to see him work on a couple of projects and vice-versa…we were both messing around in Maelstrom and stumbled on the start of what became ‘Dunes’ not long after.” -MYSTRVS

In light of that, they soon realized they had undeniable chemistry when producing together and knew they had to showcase their best work by releasing a full EP. Combining their intricate, riddim-driven soundscapes, MYSTRVS and BRASIVE produced a collection of tracks with a relentless level of energy.

MYSTRVS, who rinses out some insane dubstep, all while being masked, mysterious, and enigmatic, has been pushing the boundaries for riddim sound design. He has played festivals such as Insomniac’s Beyond Wonderland and will soon be playing at Forbidden Kingdom at the end of May. MYSTRVS became highly recognized when he produced the track titled “ROBLOX,” which became a standout riddim anthem. This track gained immense popularity, which led him to release an entire rework EP dubbed “ROBLOX: THE REMIXES” that features remixes from dignified dubstep artists such as BRASIVE, PYKE, POINT.BLANK, and more!

The Dallas, TX riddim conductor, BRASIVE, is known for his raw and gritty sounds that make his listeners move with intensity and furiosity. BRASIVE has been showcasing his incredible production skills, having released the ‘Fatal Visions’ EP under Subtronics‘ label, Cyclops Recordings. Furthermore, he has gained support from curating a guest mix for Riddim Syndicate, a bass music collective and platform that launches emerging artists. 

MYSTRVS and BRASIVE had their breakthrough moment when they collaborated with riddim phenom Rated R on one of the biggest riddim anthems of 2024, “BAD MOFOS.” This epic tune cooked up some serious hype, and its success was reflected when it was one of the most played out tracks at Lost Lands 2024 aka dubstep Disney Land. 

Here is what MYSTRVS said about the ‘FORESIGHT’ EP:

“The definition of the word ‘Foresight’ was the perfect description of what we were feeling in the process of making this project. We just tried to create something we felt was special and let the rest speak for itself.” -MYSTRVS 

When asked how to describe the complex, versatile EP, BRASIVE kept things short, sweet, and straight to the point:

“Riddim” -BRASIVE

Featuring six tracks, ‘FORESIGHT’ is not just a collection of powerfully refined dubstep anthems – it is an experience that takes us on a journey through enticing riddim that is just straight-up filthy. The EP kicks off with ‘DUNES,’ MYSTRV & BRASIVE’S track that sparked their idea to curate a full EP. We are introduced to a compelling voice that draws us in, building anticipation for what lies ahead. The second banger, titled ‘MYSTERY BUSINESS,’ features pulsating, distorted sounds that have an ominous and suspenseful feel to them. It consists of gritty bass, layered with sharp, high-pitched sounds. Throughout the EP, you can expect slow yet steady build-ups that transcend into grimy, heavy-weighted dubstep.

The following track, titled ‘INTERVAL,’ begins with whispering echoes that warp into menacing sound waves. Up next is ‘VAUNT’, which takes us on a rhythmic journey that becomes deeper and darker as the track goes on. This is preceded by ‘DOZER’, which presents us with futuristic sounds that I’m still trying to wrap my head around. Last but not least, the ‘FORESIGHT’ EP concludes with ‘D.I.E’, which was my personal favorite and left my jaw on the floor. The crisp, textured sounds circulate around one another, leaving you on the edge of your seat and in the realms of a boisterous riddim-induced trance. 

It is awe-inspiring to see two talented underground producers come together and create something as masterful as MYSTRVS & BRASIVE’S ‘FORESIGHT’ EP. This goes to show that you never know who you might connect with casually online and what endless possibilities it could turn into. I am looking forward to seeing these two visionary artists grow their individual projects and also their collaborative endeavors. The ‘FORESIGHT’ EP is an experience that will take you to the depths of your mind as you ponder what may lie ahead. As the EP is loaded with gnarly, unexpected twists and turns, the only thing predictable is that each track will be sure to throw you for an unmatched vibe.
