Headbangers and gunslingers are feeling the puppy love! Underdog Records, the recent electronic music label from Protohype, blessed fans with it’s first compilation album, The Pack Vol. 1, on Wednesday. New and old friends of Protohype share everything from traditional dubstep to experimental beats to gritty bass on this annual collection. Crank your speakers all the way up and jump in!
“Brain Surgery” by Dank Frank gets me hot and sweaty right out of the gates. Huge bass tones rinse over your body throughout the whole ride, showering you with silky, warm bass hugs. Definitely some dope sound design going on under the hood for your listening pleasure.
“Damage” by AceMyth absolutely slays with high energy bass and piercing drums. Break your neck to disgusting growls and stomps that will surely infiltrate the next Lost Lands festival, hopefully in late 2021. This clapper brings large production and wild energy, AceMyth crushed this one!
The highly anticipated “Strangerz” by the Blurrd Vzn boys slings gritty trap with some wubs that are BONKERS out of your speaker cones. The massive sounds of Blurrd Vzn have been spread far and wide throughout the trippy late night bass scene; if you’re unfamiliar, check them out ASAP. No bass face goes unmelted in the eerie second drop, prepare yourselves!
I had to include a blip about “Ogygia” by Seromora x Riptidal, simply because it’s mind blowing! Mix together a smoothie of melodic ideas, complex and experimental beats, with an array of voices and you have the foundation for a joint like “Ogygia”. Cheers to Seromora & Riptidal for digging deep and catching a gnarly wave with this one!
Other favorites off the new compilation project were Jinx‘s “Goblin” and Stratus‘ “Big Bad”.
Since the initial announcement in late 2019, Underdog Records has grown impressively. So far, we’ve been graced with multiple EP releases, singles, and now this heater of a compilation album, all in one year! Everybody ought to be electrified to see what comes from Protohype and the Puppy Crew forthcoming.
