LICK had an impressive take-off, with his earlier work being acknowledged by Zeds Dead by landing one of his first bodies of work on their Deadbeats label. Following his Deadbeats debut, LICK quickly got to work to consistently put out his recognizable heavy, yet calculated sound.
Collaborations like “The Greatest” with Whipped Cream and “System Bleed” with The Glitch Mob flex his production prowess where he can shine while also complimenting and building on his collaborators. His dynamic, hefty sound can be found on forward-thinking labels like ALT:Vision Records, Glass Air, Subsidia, and even Riot Games–where he released the theme song for the video game Valorant.
After quite the hiatus through 2020, LICK came into 2021 ready to pump out heaters–and that he did. The ringleader for the Dark Vibe Order gave us a taste of what was to come from his sophomore album Beyond The Void with his ELIMINATE EP that packaged the leading five singles from the album.
Each single is a tasteful expansion on the sound we are used to hearing from LICK. Known for both Midtempo bass and Dubstep, LICK expresses an impressive development in his sound with Beyond The Void. The opening track “Astral” quickly sets the expectation to have none, with an alluring, melodic atmosphere gently carried by spirited drums rather than his usual hypnotic, brutal bass. While he makes sure to flex his infamous sound throughout the album, the exploration through different genres makes Beyond The Void an aural journey.
