After months of teasing, NotLö and BroMosapien finally unveiled their collaborative EP, Consume, on Subtronics‘ imprint Cyclops Recordings. This record perfectly blends NotLö’s sinister soundscapes and BroMosapien’s massive basslines and foreshadows a huge year ahead for both of these up-and-coming stars.

“Summons” is a strong start for the EP. Sinister, distorted backing vocals set the scene as the pace builds. The track’s bassline melody is well-mixed and crisp, varying between sustains and stabs. The second drop opts for double-time, showcasing this duo’s drum & bass production abilities.

The EP’s eponymous second track is magnificent. Far too often do collabs feel patched together, but it’s clear throughout the EP and, most notably in “Consume,” how much care NotLö and BroMosapien put into these songs. The bassline is meticulous, settling perfectly in the mix, allowing the drums to punch through and maintain the pace. “Can’t Get Down” uses more high-end in its bassline, relying on the bassline for the track’s groove compared to “Consume.”

It’s hard to find a star burning as brightly as NotLö. She’s coming off a year that saw her play an impressive run of festivals, including Electric Forest and Shambhala, along with tour dates across the country. She’ll rock the speakers at Bonnaroo, The Untz, Sonic Bloom, Miami Music Week, and Red Rocks in 2023. NotLö teased the release of her debut album this year as well, which is one of our most highly anticipated releases.

BroMosapien is another of our favorite rising stars. He has made waves with his infectious uptempo distorted basslines. In 2022, he appeared at Fire Lights, Big Dub, Yonderville, Tribal Connection, and Sol Fest. We cannot wait to see what’s next for this North Carolina-based producer!
