The dynamic, hit-making duo, Rezz and Grabbitz, join forces yet again for “Signal”, the second single off of Rezz’s forthcoming “ITS NOT A PHASE” EP. This long-awaited dream-team collaboration was teased early this year by Space Mom herself to be “better than ‘Someone Else’in [her] opinion.”
Last month, Rezz set the stage for her self-proclaimed “goth” era after releasing “Blue In The Face” with Shadient and fknsyd, the first nightmarish tune from her “ITS NOT A PHASE” EP. Fans wholeheartedly embraced this thematic shift, with the new tracks offering a revamped live show experience that still holds true to Rezz’s hardcore influences.
After curating one of the most prominent tracks in dance music and pillars of both of their respective discographies with “Someone Else” in 2020, Grabbitz circles back for an unforgiving round two alongside Rezz – this time on her very own HypnoVizion label. The multifaceted producer and musician adds fuel to his hot streak, still buzzing from the recent success of his collaboration on ILLENIUM‘s rock-influenced album with Wooli, titled “You Were Right”.
“Signal” is the ultimate vessel to carry the ominous synergy between Rezz’s melodic bass lines and Grabbitz’s complementary harmonies. With a spooky introduction supported by Grabbitz’s distinctive vocalizations, “Signal” immediately demonstrates why it is the ideal addition to the “IT’S NOT A PHASE” EP.
A buildup detailed by an arrangement of guitar and drums heightens the intense energy of the track, classifying itself as an electronic-rock essential. Rezz seamlessly harnesses the dark-hued energy of the crescendo, before transitioning into her master-class midtempo madness that fans flock to her sets for. With their sonic bandwidths shifted into overdrive, Rezz and Grabbitz blend their bass-heavy harmonies to create a cinematic chorus. Flying frequencies, vibrational bass growls, and Grabbitz’s emotive melodiousness crown “Signal” as another infectious festival singalong from the mesmerizing pair of artists.
In promoting the collaboration, Rezz made it known that creating “Someone Else” with Grabbitz changed the way she approaches music and that fans can “expect to hear a lot more collaborations [from them] in the future as [they] plan to write/produce music for others too.”
Grabbitz also took to social media to share a personal diary entry that detailed his feelings regarding the sonic energy between himself and Rezz through their collaborative efforts, check it out here:
“Earlier this year, I got a call from Rezz about another demo that she thought I might like, which ended up being the foundation for our song coming out this Friday, “Signal”.
As artists, we chase that flow state. We try to find other creatives that we can ride the same wavelength with. What Rezz and I have been able to accomplish in a few short sessions proves that it’s possible.
If you haven’t found your flow recently, or that person to flow with, just keep creating with an open mind, and it will click. I can assure you, the moment it does, you’ll know.” – Grabbitz
Recent online correspondence between the two alludes to them planning something special for the “Signal” live performance at Rezz’s Brooklyn Mirage takeover next month.
