Sully is back! Today, the Wakaan label mainstay has finally released his Submersed EP, featuring five new absolute slaps. The young producer is also a mentor and production tutor in his free time. The new project features one of his mentees IORA, as well as HIHF favorites Smoakland!
Sully and IORA’s collab “Shades Of Blue” features a phenomenal vocal performance by Jessy Covets. It shows off both sides of each artist’s production chops to a tee and you can tell which part is from which artist, especially after IORA’s new banger “Helix,” which dropped a few weeks back. You can hear some similar vibes in both tunes and we absolutely love it. We can’t wait to see what’s next from the rising star and if Sully is guiding him, he’s definitely one to watch with big things ahead.
ˆSeasons” features infectious vocals from Misdom, a club-ready chorus and a unique drop. Following that is the single from the project, “Scuba.” You can check out our thoughts on that subterranean track here.
After “Scuba” is “Static.” It’s jam-packed with disgusting synths and pounding drums and looks to be another festival ready-anthem to add to Sully’s massive artillery of heaters. You are going to want to play this one on some BIG speakers.
Lastly, we’ve got the highly anticipated collaboration track between Sully and Smoakland. “Shot Callin” goes OFF, showcasing both Sully’s heavier production style with Smoakland’s more classic/old-school dubstep sound. These two powerhouse bass artists teaming up is exactly what we needed to start out our week.
Here’s what Sully had to say about the new EP, out now through Wakaan. You can check out the full exclusive interview that we published with him last week right here.
“So, I just finished my album and there were nineteen or twenty songs total as contenders. My team and I were listening back to the body of work and wanted to put something out between the album and now, so this EP is the five most cohesive tracks of those original album contenders.
The title of the EP is Submersed and conceptually the track order starts from the deepest song and it gradually rises to the surface in terms of energy and frequency. As you listen through the project, the tracks become more explosive and emulate rising to the surface. I wanted to start deep and emotional and gradually bring the listener to the surface. Another fun fact is all the tracks start with the letter S!” – Sully
