Florida-born twin brother duo, MZG, brought their trap-heavy vibes to St. Petersburg on New Year’s Eve 2023 and sat down with us to recap the year and what’s to come next for their rapidly-growing project. The pair has been on fire this year with an impressive touring roster, a hefty collection of MZG originals, and an array of viral SoundCloud flips under their belts. While wrapping up another successful year of supplying the party and an upcoming tour supporting The Floozies on the horizon, MZG met up with us last night for an exclusive end-of-the-year recap interview!
Check out our New Year’s Eve conversation with MZG below, be sure to support them on socials and catch them on the road in 2024!

HIHF: What’s up guys, Ty from HIHF coming at you live from St. Pete with the talented MZG brothers. This twin brother-duo has been killing it from the festival circuit to their SoundCloud flips and party-starting originals. MZG, what is the energy for you guys like tonight ringing in New Year’s Eve in St. Pete?
MZG: We’ve been really heavy on the SoundCloud flips lately, so we’ve been making a lot in the studio and and entering this year on a trendy vibe.
What Charles said, trendy vibe, keeping it OG with some classics and current stuff, it’s gonna be awesome.
HIHF: Sweet! So, MZG has had a killer year from Rowdytown, Hulaween’s 10th anniversary, to North Coast, Sacred Acre, and many more. What have been some of your favorite tour stops of 2023?
MZG: I’d say Alaska, Sacred Acre, one-hundred percent. Just the vibe in general and being in that latitude of the United States is just amazing. The vibe is killer and the people who throw the Sacred Acre festival are by far some of our favorite people. Everyone needs to go to Alaska, to say the least.
HIHF: Definitely a bucket list festival.
Fans are already looking forward to your upcoming tour run supporting The Floozies. How are you approaching those sets?
MZG: Kind of the same way we always do. They wanted MZG on the road with them, so we’re gonna bring MZG and the sound that everyone knows.
Even talking with them before the tour, we were like, “So whats the vibe? How do you feel about trap?”, and they’re like, “Kill it, bring the bass for them.”
Every conversation we’ve had with them has been like, “do you” every single time, and that’s what we love about The Floozies. They’re so in-tune with doing their own thing, they want everybody to do the same.
HIHF: That’s great, you guys definitely have the opportunity to demonstrate the polarity of trap and funk while staying in your own lane.
MZG: It’s a contrast. Like as artists, we can definitely make sure that it accommodates the crowd as well and play some funky-trap stuff.
HIHF: This year, you guys have gotten the opportunity to play alongside household names like Troyboi and Manic Focus. Who would you list as your biggest inspirations? Any dream collabs?
MZG: Kaytranada, by far. That man has had a major influence on the way we make and approach music. His Boiler Room set in 2013 really set quite a tone for what we we’re doing and our vision. Clearly, we take it a step further and make a lot of bangers, but as far the smooth, swingy, groovy stuff that’s kind of always been the rudimentary approach that we have.
HIHF: Your SoundCloud edits are always turning heads and getting incorporated into other artists’ sets. Most recently, you dropped a fire flip to Nicki Minaj’s “FTCU”. What is your process like in finding tracks that inspire you to remix?
MZG: We kind of talk to friends about what’s trending and we just jump in the studio and make pretty quick flips. This one specifically took no time, we’ve learned that the quicker, the better. The less you think about it and the more fun you have with it, the better the turnout. That’s only coming from us overproducing in certain points, like sometimes things just make sense, so don’t overthink it and put it out. If it sounds good, it is good.
HIHF: Do you guys find that being twin brothers helps your creative flow more in the studio, on stage, or a bit of both?
MZG: The synergy is kind of all-encompassing. There’s definitely a symbiotic relationship in the studio, on stage, in life, it’s really overall like a partnership.
We do things in identical fashion, oddly enough. All throughout life, it’s rewarding, in tune, and in sync. In a healthy competition, we push each other to do better all the time.
HIHF: Lastly, what is next for the MZG project?
MZG: We have this tour with The Floozies next year, around twenty dates. We have some big collabs with some artists that we can’t announce just yet, but they’re coming out next year.
We had 23 tracks come out in 2023 and moving forward in 2024, were gonna be focusing on bodies of work. We’re still gonna be putting out flips and stuff like that, but we’re thinking about stage design, live sets, and something that will amplify the experience.
HIHF: Awesome, thank you so much MZG! Coming at you live from St. Pete tonight, you Heard It Here First!
