HIHF favorite Ravenscoon has just released an insane follow-up remix compilation for his debut album PERIPHERY Released this past Friday, May 17th via WAKAAN, the remix compilation is a testament to Ravenscoon’s dedication and love for the underground. Here’s what Ravenscoon had to say about the new remix album:
“I wanted to tap my favorite underground producers to breathe new life into each and every track from Periphery” -Ravenscoon
The LP features several different genres and showcases a bunch of emerging talent within the scene including Eyezic, Feelmonger, Flozone, Green Matter, Gunpoint, HEYZ, Ian Snow, Lumasi, LUZCID, MPort, Notixx, Ren Zukii, Shanghai Doom, Sharlitz Web, Sidewalks & Skeletons, Stratus, Ujuu, Wiley, and Yoko. Each of these multi-talented artists does an intricate, surgical job of bringing their unique style and interpretation to each track, transforming Ravenscoon’s originals into new explorations of sound.
We broke down some of our favorite reimaginings from the compilation below, let’s dive in!
“Far Away ” – Gunpoint Remix
The steady rising artist, Gunpoint, has made a huge name for himself this year by being on tour with Tape B for the second consecutive Old School New School Tour. This has given him a massive opportunity to showcase his talent to the public and allowed his music to be recognized by fellow artists. On his remix of “Far Away,” we dive into quite the emotional journey. The first half of the song starts with euphoric lyrics followed by disgusting grimy bass leading into the first drop. After you thought it couldn’t get any better, the second drop somehow ups the ante by maintaining the hard-hitting bass while also integrating the melodic elements that were introduced at the start of the track. We’re all in for a treat this year with countless IDs from Gunpoint being showcased by several different artists and we are so glad to see him represented here.
“Ritual” – Flozone Remix
Recently receiving tons of recognition for his viral remix of “Baddadan” by Chase & Status , Flozone’s music has found its way into many different DJ’s sets such as Liquid Stranger, Zeds Dead, Hamdi, and many more. Marking his official WAKAAN debut with his remix of “Ritual,” it is easy to see just why he was picked to transform this already banging track. If you love thundering bass and thick drums, this remix is definitely for you. Make sure you keep your eye on Flozone this year, as he continues to pave his way into becoming a staple of the underground.
“Melt ” – Lumasi Remix
Lumasi’s rendition of this already filthy track is nothing short of an incredulous soundscape. Filled with those classic Lumasi wubs and distorted basses, it’s easy to see how this was the perfect fit for the original track and overall vibe of the Periphery LP. Lumasi continues to prove time and time again why the underground deserves more praise and we are glad to see that coming to life lately. He absolutely crushed this one and we’re excited to see what the future holds for the Lumasi project!
“Acid ” – HEYZ Remix
HEYZ has been on quite the rise these past few years and this remix proves just why he deserved to be on such a big platform like Wakaan. His take on Ravenscoon’s “Acid” is unique and will definitely have the crowd going hard this summer with its destructive basslines and booming drums. This piece of art is not only filled with diabolical, heavy bass, but also maintains those mystical melodies we hear sprinkled throughout the original. We love what HEYZ did on this reimagining, let us know what you thought down in the comments!
Overall, we loved seeing each of these artists give their spin on these already killer tracks from the PERIPHERY LP. It’s hard to imagine these tracks getting any better than they already were, but it seems to come with ease to these young legends of the underground. Let us know what you think and which Ravenscoon remix was your favorite once you give the PERIPHERY remix compilation a listen for yourself!
