If you didn’t see the huge news, HIHF announced our Cabin Fever Festival earlier this week. A fundraiser benefitting The Innocence Project, the lineup boasts huge bass names like DMVU, Mad Pritch, Chef Boyarbeatz, Evalution, Benji Robot, Opalyte, Yoko, and SENZA.
Today, we’re sitting down with the Indiana bass maven Mad Pritch to chat inspirations, non-music interests, and what she has planned for the rest of 2021. Don’t miss her set at Cabin Fever Festival on June 17th, starting at 8pm Eastern.
Mad Pritch has shared the stage with some of the hottest names in bass music, ranging from Wreckno to MIZE to Eazybaked. She also graced Okeechobee’s late-night Incedia stage alongside Toadface, VCTRE, and TiedyeKy.
She also performed at the inaugural Revibe Retreat, a vertical festival where fans attended by viewing shows on their hotel balconies. The event was extremely successful during the pandemic and hosted other huge bass names like TRUTH, SoDown, Mersiv, Buku, NotLo, A Hundred Drums, and more!
Recently, she appeared on the Cybernetics compilation album for her collab with fellow vocalist/producer G-Space, as well as linking up with episcool for their filthy hip-hop collab “Red-Handed”.
Enjoy our conversation with Mad Pritch below and we hope to see you on the 17th in our twitch chat!
H: Who are your biggest inspirations for your music?
MP: Mother Earth is my biggest inspiration for my music & art. I find that my greatest sources of inspiration in connection to my creativity, art & music come when I am spending time outside, under the sun & in nature. Earth, air, fire & water are all divinely inspiring to me. The sun, flowers, plants, animals, trees, water… all things nature bring me infinite amounts of inspiration. Jazz & R&B music are also both very inspiring for me & my music.
H: What artists did you grow up listening to?
MP: Growing up I listened to many different artists including Nora Jones, Usher, Nelly, Ludacris, Corrine Bailey Rae, Pretty Ricky, Marvin Gaye, Bob Marley, Lil Wayne, 50 Cent, Drake, Fantasia, Chris Brown, Bobby V, Ginuwine, Brian Mcknight, Lyfe Jennings, Mary J Blige, Amanda Perez, Mario, Wale, Musiq Soulchild, Trey Songz, Ying Yang Twins, TWISTA, Keyshia Cole, Ashanti, Jamie Foxx, Chris Brown, Ne-yo & J Holiday.
H: Any big projects or releases on the way? What’s on tap for Mad Pritch?
MP: I am always working on new music so there will always be new releases on the way! I have 2 collabs that I am very excited about that will be released soon. 1. My collab with EAZYBAKED! & 2. My collab with lysn. & Krook! I am also almost always working on new music with one of my favorite artists, Smokestax (his side project is rsrch chmcls). I have a lot of originals in the works that will be sprinkled into the cyber world all year!
H: You are a great photographer, which is something someone might not know about you if they didn’t follow your instagram account. What got you into photography and what is your favorite part?
M: Thank you so much! I have always loved taking pictures and photography is definitely a strong passion of mine. Growing up, I would take pictures using my digital camera which led me to becoming enthralled with photography. Once I got my first iPhone, I started taking pictures of anything & everything. I have always loved taking photos of the beauty of nature. My favorite part of photography is capturing the close up details that I normally wouldn’t have noticed unless my eyes were inches away from what I was taking a photo of! I love falling in love with something right in front of my eyes, for example: a beautiful flower in a garden, and then taking a photo and always remembering how that flower made me feel because I can go back and admire it any time! I also love editing photos. Photography is all about creative freedom!
H: Tell us about your time playing the Incedia stage at Okeechobee last year, what was that like?
MP: Playing the Incendia stage at Okeechobee in 2020 was a divine experience, to say the least! It was an absolute adrenaline rush and a complete dream come true. The fire, the stage, the sound system, the crowd… It was unbelievable. That experience continues to leave me speechless to this day!
H: Well, congrats on that achievement! If you could collaborate with one artist, who would your dream collab be with?
MP: Right now, if I could collaborate with one artist I would choose 6lack. I love his music and artistry. That would definitely be my dream collab!
H: Okay, how about a step further. If you could attend a dream festival, who would be on the lineup?
MP: If I could curate my dream festival, the lineup would consist of 6lack, G-Space, EAZYBAKED, CharlestheFirst, Amon Tobin, Jacquees, Bob Marley, Bow Wow, Omarion, Bryson Tiller, Usher, Yheti, Corrine Bailey Rae, Nora Jones, Pretty Ricky, 50 Cent, Ludacris, Marvin Gaye, DMVU, DeJ Loaf, DIGITAL ETHOS, Fantasia, Flume, Huxley Anne, Ivy Lab, NOISIA, Subfiltronik, Blankface, James Blake, Jeremih, John Butler Trio, Lyfe Jennings, WRECKNO, Mario, Mary J Blige, ZÍA, Ruku, Flying Lotus, Musiq Soulchild, NotLö, Smino, Timbaland, Missy Elliott, Tsuruda, Ying Yang Twins, Abelation, K Camp, Lil Jon, Keyshia Cole, Erik Satie, Chopin, Thelonious Monk & Smokestax.
H: What do you want fans to know about you or the Mad Pritch project in general?
MP: I would love for everyone to know how loved & important they are just by being here on earth! You are divinely, beautifully & perfectly created. I’m so grateful to be here, in a current state of flow & creation. I would like everyone who connects with my art to know how grateful I am for you. Life is all about connection and it is so beautiful when someone’s energy and art speaks to your heart & soul. I live to be the purest, most innocent, grateful, harmonious, courageous, creative, loving & authentic version of myself and I hope I can inspire you to do the same. Love yourself and love your life because our lives are our medicine! I always try to be grateful for the little things, like the sun in the sky & the grass on the ground. Be grateful for what you have & who you are & all you have to offer this world! We are all here with a unique purpose and our differences make humanity so lovely. I am always trying to inspire the people around me to live their most natural, compassionate, magical, joyful, meaningful & grateful lives!
