Alec Goldstein and Connor Elder, known to the dubstep world as CHOMPPA and Elderbass, have teamed up for a dubstep tour de force, titled “Blow The Whistles.”  This showcase of production mastery is off Circus Records, the brainchild label of legendary bass music innovators Doctor P and Flux Pavillion. If you’ve been lucky enough to see either of these young artists live, you’ll likely have been rocked by the jaw-dropping track before. If not, now is the time.

CHOMPPA has been making a name for himself in the bass scene over the past few years, touring with Zeds Dead and Deadbeats as well as dropping several massive tracks. From his inaugural EP “Flabbergast” on Deadbeats, to his single “Portal” with SuperAve. and of course, the wonky collaboration “Drugs!”  with TVBOO, this young producer is off to an impressive start to his career. His blend of melodic, danceable, and heavy production is a force to be reckoned with and his live performances are honestly jaw-dropping.

Elderbass, too, has been paving his own path in this industry. To have such a distinctly signature sound so early in one’s career is a rarity, but Elderbass is a rare breed. His famously grimey self-released remix of “Intergalactic” by The Beastie Boys and his first original single “UNDRGRND” caught the industry’s attention, and Protohype‘s Underdog Records picked up his track “Change Your Mind” shortly thereafter. With many other killer releases under his belt, a number of energetic live performances, and a bangin’ 2022 showcase under his belt, we can’t wait to see what’s next for this budding legend.

These two producers, who first met on Discord during the early months of the COVID-19 pandemic and quickly became friends, have put their heads together and created a true dubstep gem. The track opens to digital plucks shimmering out over a rich atmosphere. A wavy bass synth creeps in, and the energy builds to a crescendo. A thick pre-drop vocal chants out the title of the track before we’re blasted into space. A massive bassline hits right in the chest, backed up by chunky drums. The bassline switches up, dropping into some heavy, layered wobbles that will take your breath away. Bass face engaged.

We step back from the energy in the midsection, but the drums keep the groove rocking and the crowd moving. The energy returns again, but with some variations in the chorus. The synth design is sharper and more piercing, with some glitched-out chiptune patterns and video game-style sounds. The two producers had fun in this section, and their excitement shows. The second chorus is a playground of sound design, and we’re here for it.

Here’s what each artist had to say about the track:

“After being a fan of Elderbass’ music for a while, I was thrilled when he sent me a drop idea to work on. I crafted an intro that grabs the listener’s attention from the first second and blended his sounds with my sound design and swung rhythms for the second drop. Our styles merged perfectly on this tune and I couldn’t be happier to be releasing it through the infamous Circus Records!” – CHOMPPA

“I started a drop that I felt was in between both our styles, so naturally it came together perfectly. Been a huge fan of Circus over the years and although this track diverts from the classic dubstep this label has been known to do so well, I feel it’s a sound that will be well received and unique to what people know from Circus Records.” – Elderbass
