What more could you want from a vibey bass tune than certified party starters GRiZ and Big Gigantic combining their talents? “Open Your Mind” shows there is a reason you will see both of them on the main stage all summer long, their high energy upbeat music never fails to get the crowd moving. If you are headed to Okeechobee this weekend, you are in for a treat because this one is fresh and fun.

The song is an homage to the roots of dubstep and starts with a classic “rub-a-dub riddim” sound. This is a style of reggae music that originated in the 1960s and is characterized by offbeat chord stabs, slick bass runs, and defining vocals. If you want to learn more about the culture surrounding this sound check out the classic artists such as Yellowman, Gregory Isaacs, and Captain Sinbad.

GRiZ and Big Gigantic’s “Open Your Mind” contains all of the defining elements of reggae and adds a massive amount of face-melting bass on top of it. When everything hits in full effect it’s heavy, stomping, and dense with attitude. Every pocket is fleshed out and filled with crisp sound design and elaborate funky wonks, it’s a full serving that leaves you still wanting more. The direction they took with “Open Your Mind” suits both their styles perfectly and demonstrates that stompy dubstep can also feel elated and groovy.
