Heard It Here First

It feels like we’ve been waiting for years for the release of this monumental, collaborative project from The Godfather of Funk and The Mushroom King. GRiZ and LSDREAM first blessed us with this mind-melting track at GRiZ’s Space Camp back in December 2021, and even though it’s only been nine months, why does it feel like we’ve been waiting for ages for this massive new collision course of a track? “Funkonaut” is finally here.

GRiZ, has been healing hearts & taking names since 2016 with his breakout album Good Will Prevail, which debuted at #1 on the iTunes Electronic chart. Considered a musical chameleon, GRiZ is happy to switch up his style from upbeat future funk to more low-tempo chill jams. After his Rainbow Brain album was released last summer and tons of successful nationwide curated events, he has become maybe the biggest name in the world of freeform bass music and dubstep.

Sami Diament, known to us now as LSDREAM, was once a staple of EDM trap under the name Brillz. We get to witness one man’s healing journey through the evolution of his music. Altogether, It has been a steady ascension for LSDREAM since his debut album VOYAGER was released on Liquid Stranger’s Wakaan Label in 2018. He’s become a mainstay of the Wakaan collective, with two other albums under his belt released there.  GRiZ actually just made his debut release on Wakaan, with his brand new collaborative banger “Bass Music” alongside TVBOO. He also finally released his The Sponges collab a few weeks back, which has also been a staple of the house sections of his live sets.

With “Funkonaut” now ready to stream, the world will be a funkier, more curious place. Certainly, the kind of world where our minds can wander into the farthest reaches of our imagination to envision us happier, healing, and ready to dance. This new single serves as a backing track to that exploration and it encompasses all of the best sides of both artists’ production prowess.
