SUAHN is an experimental electronic producer who may as well be called King Midas, because everything he touches instantly turns to gold. A master of many sub-genres, this production mind is one you need to have on your radar in 2023. We hosted him for a HIHF guest mix series back in 2021 and it was absolutely diabolical, peep that mix here.
Today, the rising star artist is linking up for his new single with RL Grime’s Sable Valley label, home to some of the hottest on-the-rise producers in the game, hosting names like Juelz, Knock2, ISOxo, Pauline Herr, Rossy, and Rohaan.
For “Red Light,” SUAHN shows off the sound he has become well-known for; filthy, distorted, trap-laced beats. The Baltimore producer recently released his ‘in the dark’ A/V showcase about two weeks back. “Red Light” served as the showcase’s intro tune and it was also one of the most highly-sought after IDs in SUAHN’s treasure chest of unreleased gems over the past year.
Here’s what SUAHN had to say about his newest track off the trap don RL Grime’s own label:
“I am a huge fan of saturation and distortion. It’s a large part of my songwriting process. I am always inspired to see how much I could use saturation and distortion to make wild sonics. The main section of ‘Red Light’ was a groove I made and a bunch of layers of the same bassline, all distorted differently – and just had a certain attitude that I loved. Once I feel like I got the groove for the main section of the song, I felt like it just clicked in well. I try to not overthink it – I try to focus on capturing the energy that initially made me excited about whatever I am writing.” – SUAHN
