Greg Jones, the artist behind the G Jones moniker, has been an enigmatic staple of experimental bass for years now. A complete master of music production and a highly sought-after live act, the artist has collaborated with other incredible producers like Amon Tobin, Eprom, and DJ Shadow. Shadow even called G Jones, “the most gifted Ableton beatmaker I’ve ever seen.”

Rolling Stone described Jones as a “studio wizard,” and Billboard compared his music to “opening a door with the key of imagination to a new dimension of sound and sight, shadow and substance.” His extremely unique sound has earned him support from many top-tier artists in electronic music, such as Aphex Twin, GRiZ, and Porter Robinson just to name a couple. Massive news for fans, G Jones just released two new tracks that showcase a spin on his unique, forward-thinking style, and they are both from his forthcoming sophomore album, Paths, the official follow-up to his masterful 2018 The Ineffable Truth album.

“Daydreams”  has G Jones’s signature glitches and breaks, but the energy from the track goes into a whole new territory for the artist. The tune is much more melody focused and has an uplifting, nostalgic feel. The track opens with a vocal that reminds me of 1920s recordings of singers. “Daydreams” pulls the audience in many different directions, but at the same time, works as a cohesive whole and has a consistent story throughout, further adding to the unspoken G Jones lore.

“Which Way” is probably one of the most forward-thinking, experimental tracks that have been released in a while. The combination of samples and sound design is almost its own genre – with organic percussion hits, cowbells, glitches, and shouts all melded into one soundscape. G Jones proves that, for any artist reading this, you don’t need to fit any specific mold or genre to be highly successful and make incredible art.
