DMVU has released a dreamy new six-track EP titled “Porcelain Pillows” via Philos Records, home to otherworldly electronic artists like Daily Bread, Late Night Radio, and Poldoore. This EP showcases his unique style, blending an ethereal dreaminess with a classic old-school hip-hop flair.
DMVU has been on a steady upward trajectory ever since the conception of the project in 2015. Jones caught the attention of dubstep legends TRUTH, earning their coveted co-sign and releasing the ‘Bloccd EP’ on the iconic Deep Dark & Dangerous label. Among the acclaim garnered from the “Bloccd” release was recognition from Circus Records label heads Doctor P and Flux Pavilion, which led to Jones becoming the first North American producer to ever release on the London-based label.
He then released his first solo album, titled “Two Pairs of Eyes, Gazing Only At Each Other” on Dome of Doom in 2020, which was a clear expression of his unique artistic identity. Pushing his boundless creativity further, Jones returned in 2021 with “Praise Be Delusion or, The Ripple“, an audacious masterpiece which proved to be an important continuation of the cinematic sound DMVU established in the previous year. The album quickly captivated listeners and critics alike, earning a prestigious spot on the first-round ballot for Dance Album of the Year at the 2021 Grammy Awards, which is an undeniable testament to its groundbreaking impact.
DMVU has performed at many notable festivals, including Secret Dreams, Forbidden Kingdom, Lost Lands, Bass Canyon, and many more. He is fresh off tour with Late Night Radio, and has also played countless tours with iconic bass artists such as Of The Trees, TRUTH, Jantsen, Dirt Monkey, Champagne Drip, and many more.
His new six-track EP showcases his distinctive sound design and unique flair throughout, with standout tracks like “Yesterday’s Blues”, “Me N U”, and “Nothing But”, each delivering a captivating and surreal listening experience that we simply cannot get enough of. The beautiful hand-drawn art from Alex Buchanan serves as both the album and single artworks.
The intro to the EP, titled “Fangs,” explodes into layers of otherworldly sounds that melt into hip-hop samples, which bring us to a soothing, sultry place. “Crucifix ” closes out the EP strong with the dirtiest blend of beats, haunting melodies, and paired with just the right amount of feelsy vocals. Throughout the project, DMVU excels at taking listeners to another place entirely through his music. This has become the case more and more with his work, looking back on all the transformative full-length projects he has released over the past five years.
