William Allocca, better known as Cool Customer, is an incredible up-and-coming talent hailing from New York. He made his debut at Secret Dreams in Ohio this past August, throwing down one of the most memorable sets of 2022, all before huge names such as Jade Cicada, Detox Unit and Mad Zach. Today, we are thrilled to bring you his debut EP, Word to the Mother, out now on Deadbeats.

Even though Secret Dreams was the first time anyone had seen this artist perform live, Cool Customer has landed on the radars of huge names in the bass scene such as Peekaboo, LSDREAM and Subtronics. As a matter of fact, his first label release was on Subtronics’ Cyclops Recordings with “In Your Face”. He will be gearing up to join Peekaboo on a couple of tour stops this winter, including a massive NYE event featuring those two, Jantsen and Ternion Sound in Charlotte, NC.

The Word to the Mother EP is everything we love about modern bass music. Combining the sounds and styles of jazz, hip hop, and electronic music, Cool Customer’s sound is incredibly unique and a breath of fresh air in the scene. The EP opens with Manifest”, a genius halftime intro that combines jazzy elements, fantastic vocal samples, thick bass lines, and some of the cleanest snares we’ve heard in a while. The call and response involving the fat bass line punches and these otherworldly plucks makes this the perfect start to an epic EP.

Cool Customer switches it up on the second track, Patience”, with a more downtempo style and flow. It is quite the blissful tune for the first two-thirds of the song; however, the last third is where he unleashes the madness by flexing his sound design and highlighting a lot of the different basses that are stashed in his vault of gold.

We then move into my personal favorite, “Wack”, a song that had me and many other attendees lose our collective marbles during Cool Customer’s Secret Dreams set. This is another epic halftime banger that is sure to make you go loco as soon as you hear the “Wiggity, Wiggity, Wiggity Wack” pre-drop vocal sample. This one especially reminded me of something Jade Cicada might throw into a set.

The EP closes with the title track, “Word to the Mother”, yet another jazzy-inspired, halftime hit. The bass line flow on this one is not only groovy, but addicting. The way Cool Customer incorporates real instruments with these punchy basses is something we genuinely yearn for in bass music. By the end of this EP, you will know that the era of Cool Customer has officially arrived.

We can’t wait to hear what’s next from this promising production talent. What did you think of the Word to the Mother EP by Cool Customer and Deadbeats? Let us know in the comments below or on our social media!
