The wait is finally over. After multiple years without a release, the don himself Jade Cicada has blessed our ears with his new album Pressure Gamut. This album solidifies Jade’s position as one of the world’s premiere electronic musicians.
Pressure Gamut features divine soundscapes and crisp, groovy basslines that soothe the soul. His influences know no bounds, as he employs elements of acid house, garage, UK glitch-hop, drum and bass, and more.
Pressure Gamut is some of Jade’s finest work to date. The song titles are whimsical and serve as an excellent foil for the more severe nature of the tracks. “AcidTripAdvisor” beautifully sets the scene for the LP, utilizing beautiful ambient synths to create a sense of tranquility.
“Loom” and “Bamboozled” showcase the staple Jade Cicada UK glitch hop sound. As always, his ability to go from calming ambiance to gut-punching bass makes him stand out. The wonderfully named “Chonkra” pulls influence from drum and bass.
The LP also features two tracks with Jade’s longtime friend and collaborator Schmoop, “Morsels” and “Pigeon Toad.”“Schlemiel” and “Cherry Sinefold” bring incredible halftime dancefloor energy. “Wrapped In Echoes” is a garage-inspired experimental bass track that utilizes more high-end melodies than most of Jade’s uptempo work. “So Long” perfectly closes the album as a downtempo palette cleanser.
This LP is an early contender for album of the year in 2023 and it came out on the year’s first day. Jade’s production abilities know no limits and we are lucky to witness true genius at work, put on full display here on Pressure Gamut. We’re anxiously waiting to see Jade’s name all over festival lineups this year and we can’t wait to catch him throw down ASAP.
