One of most talented producers in the DMV area, crawdad sniper, returns to fans with his most cohesive body of work to date. Having recently put out an incredible, hip-shaking unreleased showcase mix, crawdad sniper is ready to show everyone his ideal direction and flow for his project, beginning with his four-track Squid Pro Quo EP, out now on forward-thinking label, The Rust.
2022 was a great year of growth for crawdad sniper. He played a mainstage set at Big Dub last summer as well as Dreamscape Festival in MD earlier in the year, while supporting some of the biggest names in bass music on several single-night show lineups, including Keota, LYNY, Black Carl!, NotLö, Koan Sound, Alejo, Thought Process, and several others. He also continued to show off his production prowess with a strong cadence of releases that covered everything from halftime to trip-hop to 140/dubstep to drum & bass and more. There are truly no limits to crawdad sniper’s range. With background expertise in playing the drums, he truly allows the melodies and bass sound design to come to him after laying down these tight, well-polished rhythmic foundations.
This is on full display in the Squid Pro Quo EP, in which crawdad sniper provides some First Team All-Drum Patterns, allowing us to dive in and keep our bodies moving nonstop. Beginning with “Casiotone”, we are introduced to this jazzy, hip-shaking bass ensemble that quickly captures our attention. His ability to seamlessly mesh two different genres is brilliant in this opening track. Next, the title track “Squid Quo Pro” takes us on a beautiful, head-nodding journey and opens the senses. We go from a feeling of floating in the first half of the track to blasting off once again in the second half with several basses that are genuinely stimulating.
We then move into my personal favorite, “Axolotl”. When it comes to tracks that are just downright fun and addictive, this one checks about every box imaginable. The bouncy nature of this track will have you wanting it to never end. Not only is this one of the coolest amphibians (and animals for that matter) on the planet, but now we know just how cool of a song it is.
The EP closes on a deeper, more vibey note with “The Process”. This one carries us off into the sunset while providing some unreal textures and bass elements that leave us wanting more. A beautiful reminder that crawdad sniper has indeed arrived.
We are looking forward to following crawdad sniper this year and can’t wait to hear what else he has in the vault. What did you think of the new Squid Pro Quo EP from crawdad sniper? Let us know in the comments or on our social media.
